#4: Gospel of the Kingdom

Gospel of the kingdom and return of the king

“We will demonstrate the gospel of the Kingdom unto the day Jerusalem sings Psalm 118 to Jesus.”

The gospel of the Kingdom is not told in its fullness if it leaves out the crucial truth of what Jesus feels and says concerning Israel. Jesus came to do what Israel could not, and to redeem both Jacob and the nations. Though they rejected and crucified him, His arms are still outstretched and His heart is still longing for Jerusalem (Matt 23:37-39). God has staked his glory on the salvation and restoration of Israel, and there is a final shaking coming to Jerusalem before she cries out to God for deliverance. The gospel of the Kingdom will climax in the final hour where both Israel and the nations are prepared for the returning King. We are commissioned to go into all the world and be witnesses of the gospel of the Kingdom, but it will not be the end until the gospel returns to Jerusalem and Israel welcomes Jesus.

Scripture: Matthew 23:39, Psalm 118, Matthew 24-25, Daniel 7, Zechariah 12.

Reflection questions:

  1. How do we prepare for the end of the age as asked by the disciples in Matthew 24?
